About PDF Enhance & Clean
Scanned a document and ended up with a blurry, skewed or grey, washed-out PDF? This tool re-renders each page at a higher resolution, then runs a clean-up pipeline: auto-deskew (straighten tilted scans), contrast & brightness, sharpen, and adaptive binarization (turn a dingy scan into crisp black-on-white). You can also add a searchable OCR text layer so you can select and search the text. Everything runs locally — your PDF is never uploaded.
An honest note: this enhances legibility — it makes a poor scan much cleaner and sharper. It cannot recover detail that the scan never captured, and it does not repair a structurally corrupt PDF file (that needs different, server-side tooling). Tune the settings on the page-1 preview before processing the whole document.
Works best on scanned / image-based PDFs
- Text documents: turn on Grayscale + Binarize for a crisp black-on-white scan, and add the OCR text layer to make it searchable.
- Photos / mixed pages: keep Grayscale and Binarize off; use Contrast and Sharpen only.
- Tilted scans: enable Auto-deskew — check the page-1 preview to confirm it straightened correctly before processing.
